Magnetawan is a community of 1,454 people (Census 2011) on the banks of the Magnetawan River in the Almaguin Highlands Region of Ontario. Its economy was originally founded on farming and lumber industry but is now predominantly seasonal, providing services to the year round cottage residents on Ahmic and Cecebe Lakes. Located approximately 22 kms from Burks Falls to the east along Hwy 520 and about 25 kms from Sundridge north east along Hwy 124. The commercial centres serving the area are Huntsville and Parry Sound both about 60 kms away.
With a land area of 531 sq. km. the community is predominately rural in nature, with two principal settlement area, the Hamlet of Ahmic Harbour at the western end of Ahmic Lake and the former village of Magnetawan. The current boundaries of Magnetawan were determined by the amalgamation in 1998 of the Township of Chapman and the Village of Magnetawan, along with the previously unincorporated townships of Croft and Spence.
